Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces growing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear mismatched, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death started the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting the character, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group reach places they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Questers and Planners groups.

Audiences can anticipate discovering which players will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
