Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
